Data content

Under DPMAregister, you can carry out searches within the pool of national data of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office for:

Registered and cancelled trade marks

Register data
Trade mark data have been captured by electronic means since 1 January 1995. Register data relating to trade marks that had been registered before 1995 and were not yet cancelled on 1 January 1995 were captured subsequently. This means that the complete register data of all currently registered trade marks (with a filing date as of May 1875) are available to you.
Data relating to procedures
Complete electronic capture of all procedures has been carried out since 1 January 1998. For this reason, the procedural history of trade marks registered before 1998 might be incomplete. Furthermore, complete information on details is only available on procedures that were carried out from 29 May 2006 onwards.
Data relating to trade marks cancelled before 1995
Register data and data relating to procedures of trade marks cancelled before 1995 result from data corrections and are only included in the data resource in individual cases.

Trade mark applications and trade mark applications withdrawn/refused

all trade mark applications since 1 January 1998 whose application date is established, including trade mark applications withdrawn/refused
trade mark applications, governed by the former trade mark law ('Warenzeichengesetz'), received before 1 January 1995, which were published in the former journal ('Warenzeichenblatt') and for which a decision on registration had not yet been taken on 1 January 1995 (incomplete).

Only limited data will be displayed regarding trade mark applications and trade mark applications withdrawn/refused (Sec. 23 Trade Mark Ordinance).

All data of the Trade Mark Journal (Markenblatt) are available as searchable data, even those of the past years. On the Trade Mark Journal page, the issues of the Markenblatt (called 'Warenzeichenblatt' until 1994) from 1950 onwards are available in PDF format.

International data

Union trade marks and international marks registered under the Madrid Agreement are included in the database as additional data, as non-official content. Click here for more details and important information on this subject.

Updating

The register data are updated daily.

The data for the Trade Mark Journal (Markenblatt) are published weekly, usually on Friday.

For identifying all trade marks protected in Germany, you must also consider the Union trade marks (EM) of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the international marks (international registrations) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
