Which files can be made available for inspection?

It is possible to request that case files of patents be made available if the following conditions are met:

The application has been published.
File inspection has not yet been activated for the file number.
The status is "pending/in force".
The patent has not yet been granted.
A request for examination or search has been filed.
The file has no EP file number; it is neither a nationalised EP application nor PCT application with EP designation.

Requesting to make the case files available on the Internet is not possible for files for which the decision to grant the patent was already issued but the patent specification has not yet been published. After publication of the patent specification online file inspection will be available.

The following applies to utility models:

The utility model has been registered.
File inspection has not yet been activated for the utility model.
The status is "pending/in force".

If it is not possible to make the case file which you want to view available for online file inspection you can submit a conventional request for file inspection.
