News

In addition to the PDF version of the trade mark journal, the online version of the trade mark journal is now also available in DPMAregister under the Trade marks tab. In the trade mark journal online you can search by year, issue, part and leading class. You also have the option of further refining your results list with a filter configuration.

In the trade mark expert search, you can now search whether a trade mark is deemed to be withdrawn or has been withdrawn or rejected in the application procedure.
These procedural statuses (VST) in the application procedure can be searched via the master data search field Procedural status application procedure (VSTAV).

The monitoring from several DPMAkurier accounts can be combined or exchanged.
The Export monitoring from overview and Import monitoring functions can be accessed via the action menu on the DPMAkurier overview page.

The maximum number of hits for the design search has been increased from 10,000 to 100,000.

The 'Filter configuration' option has been added to the result lists in DPMAregister. The filter configuration can be used not only to refine the search result but also to obtain a statistical overview. The number next to a filter value indicates the number of hits determined for this value, which is visually emphasised by a bar.

Since 1 June 2023, the unitary patent is in force.
European patents with unitary effect are searchable in the expert mode of the DPMAregister.
In expert mode, call up the procedure data fields and select the procedure status (VST). In the value selection of states of procedure, enter "EP patent" in the search slot. You will be offered all possible process states for the uniform effect for selection.

Example for the search for EP patents for which the unitary effect was entered in June 2023:

{VST = ep-patent-einheitliche-wirkung-eingetragen and vstt=m6-2023}

DPMAregister - User-defined monitoring in DPMAkurier (16.08.2022)

DPMAkurier now also offers user-defined monitoring for all IP rights.
You can add additional criteria (e.g. the inventor or the representative in the field of patents) to a combined monitoring by applicant/owner and by class.

The additional criteria available for the relevant IP right can be selected in a drop-down menu. You can link the criteria using the Boolean operators.

What to do in DPMAkurier:
After logging in to DPMAkurier, first select the type of IP right, then select "User-defined monitoring" in the field "Type of monitoring".
In the next step, the field "Enter user-defined monitoring" appears. You can use this field to define your personal monitoring service.

DPMAregister will have a new layout from 1 June.
The pages have been streamlined. You will no longer find the usual buttons (such as "File inspection" or "Monitor file via DPMAkurier") in the result list, the register information and the document display, but action menus for making your selection.
The Basic search, the Advanced search, the image-based similarity search and the monitoring include a context help for the available input fields.
Using the result list configuration, you can now also select in the Patents and utility models section whether you want to have your results to be displayed as a matrix or as usual in table format.

In the "Trade marks" section, you now also have the option of performing an image-based similarity search. In the search view you can choose "Image". You can upload an image and then search for similar images using different search strategies. The search is carried out using WIPO AI Trademark Image Search.
A maximum of 50 similar results is displayed.
The DPMA does not assume any liability for the accuracy, completeness and usability of the search results.

The individual DPMAkurier supply service now has a new user interface.
After opening DPMAregister and selecting the navigation item DPMAkurier, the login page can be opened via the sub-item "Monitoring overview".
Once you have signed in to or registered with DPMAkurier, a screen will appear in which you can enter the monitoring data.
Use the dropdown menus to select the type of IP right (patents, trade marks, designs) and the monitoring type (for example, monitoring by IPC symbol). As usual, you can enter a short name for your monitoring request, select the delivery frequency and define the monitoring type.
The monitoring requests defined by you are clearly displayed in a single, sortable list. From this list, you can delete or edit monitoring requests.
There is no longer any (formerly applicable) limitation to the number of monitoring requests.

New help pages in a user-friendly format (pdf document) are now available for DPMAregister (only in German language).

From now on, DPMAregister offers a smart search. The corresponding search field is located at the top right edge of the screen. After entering your search term, all IP rights are searched and the results are then displayed separately in different tabs.

In DPMAkurier you can choose a special notification event for your search within the IP rights patents and utility models, supplementary protection certificates and topographies in the setting "Legal (including procedural) status monitoring of patents and utility models by file number / publication number". In the "Notification event" field, a drop-down list will open where you can select the different changes or procedures. Consequently, in future, you will only receive an e-mail for the selected events.

Further information is available under the heading "What's new" in the section "Service".

Since recently, you can generate the search link of a search query in DPMAregister for each type of IP. If you want to run a search repeatedly, you can create a link via the "Search link generate" button, click on "copy" and run your search again. You can also save this link in a separate document and use it for a new search.
The corresponding button can be found above the result list.

Previously, when searching for the date of publication (PUB), the search was automatically conducted both in the master data and in the procedural data. In future, the search for this date will only be conducted in the master data.

It is now also possible to choose the number of results per page in the result list configuration section above the result list. Previously, this was only possible via the respective search form screen.

As in the patents/utility models and design sections, you can now also configure trade mark result lists with more than 10,000 results in such a way that the most recent 10,000 results will be displayed if you have selected the application date in descending order. In this way, you can prevent that, in the case of a higher number of results, you will be randomly supplied with register numbers/file numbers of all available data.
Important: This can only be done on the search form screen using the menu item "Result list sorted by", but not on the result list screen after a search has been conducted.

In the expert search mode for patents/utility models, there is a new item "Global search fields" in the "Master Data" menu. It can be found at the beginning of the list, between "Type of IP right" and "General master data".

From now on, you can expand or reduce the width of the individual columns in the result lists.

For existing accounts in DPMAkurier you can now enter additional e-mail addresses for representatives in case of absence under the menu item "Preferences". To add further e-mail addresses click the button "Add Cc" in the personal data section.

This additional search option offers more selection fields than the "Basic search" but is less complex than the "Expert search" and offers many options to customise the search form.
First select the desired type of IP right on the DPMAregister homepage and then click on "Advanced search". A single-line input field with a drop-down list appears for selecting the field name (e.g. inventor, application date, etc.).
Click the + button to add further input fields.
Individual search fields can be linked by the Boolean operators "AND", "OR" and "NOT".
Furthermore, there is a function to bracket search terms. More information on the new search mode is available in the PDF-Datei Help section.

As in DEPATISnet, the expert mode of DPMAregister now also allows you to insert previous requests or replace an existing request within a session.

Queries submitted in an expert mode session in DPMAregister (all IP rights) are saved and can be accessed again during the same session. To access them, please use the ?History? field at the bottom of the search page; DEPATISnet has an additional feature that allows you to insert previous queries or replace an existing query.

DPMAregister: "exists" and "not exists"
The expert search mode in DPMAregister has been changed to include the fields "exists" and "not exists", which can be used, among other purposes, for error detection, statistics or special queries.
If you use these commands, you can base your search only on field names relating to master data, not to types or the status of procedures.
Example: You are searching for national trade marks in class 35 with respect to which a description is available.
Your expert search mode request is: KL=35 and exists BM and DB=DE
A search with both field names is possible for all IP rights.

The buttons "Back to search" on the result list page and "Back to result list" on the individual display page have been moved to the navigation bar and renamed. They are now called "Search" and "Result list".

Since 1 May 2020, it has been possible to select "Invalidity proceedings", "Revocation proceedings" and "FG - Invalidation proceedings" (in the "Possible legal status" field in the expert search section) to search for trade marks.

After the Internet pages have already been given a new look some time ago, our online service DPMAregister is now following in the footsteps of the DEPATISnet database. The database for the search of Official Publications and Register for patents, utility models, trade marks and designs will be adapted to the general homepage and will be visually integrated into the modern appearance. As a user, you can still access all known links (e.g. direct links to search modes) and information as well as practical features (such as the RSS feed).
Take the opportunity to give us feedback directly in DEPATISnet. You can evaluate the usability, the presentation of the research results and the help texts and have the possibility to indicate your opinion and improvement wishes in the free text. You will find the function at the top right of the help button. We look forward to your feedback!

The number of patent gazettes (Patentblätter) available in DPMAregister was expanded on 23 July 2019.
You can now retrieve all patent gazettes (Patentblätter) from 1878 onwards.

Since 15 July 2019, it has been possible to display licences, types of licences and licensees, if any, and to conduct a search for them in the expert mode.
Further information on the field names is available in the PDF-Datei help pages.
