57AbstractABA lifting tool (60) for lifting a rotor (12, 28) associated with a generator so as to allow a rotor bearing (16) to be removed from a bearing pedestal (22, 32) beneath the rotor (12, 28). The tool (60) includes a semi-circular base portion (64) that is bolted to the bearing pedestal (22, 32) and a pair of jack screws (84, 86) mounted to the base portion (64). A hydraulic ram (94) is mounted to the base portion (64) between the jack screws (84, 86) and is positioned against the rotor (12, 28) when the tool (60) is bolted to the bearing pedestal (22, 32). The ram (94) is used to lift the rotor (12, 28) away from the bearing (16) and the jack screws (84, 86) are used to hold the rotor (12, 28) up once it is in the desired location, where the ram (94) is then lowered.
